Silver was first discovered in the United States in 1859 under the eastern slope of Mount Davidson, a mountain in the Virginia Range in Nevada. The large lode of silver was named the Comstock Lode and mined until the 1920s. Today, thousands of years after ancient cultures first discovered this precious metal, they mine over 880 million troy ounces of silver per year, and private mints throughout the world produce some of the most sought-after silver bars. Silver bullion bars come in various sizes: 1 oz., 5 oz., 10oz., 100 oz., and Kilos.
The Buffalo Silver Round is a generic silver round containing .999 of silver and produced at various private mints whose design originates from sculptor James Earle Fraser’s original 1913 Indian Head Nickel. The obverse of the Buffalo Silver Round features the right profile of a Native American with the word “Liberty” printed toward the top right of the round, and the reverse features the left profile of a majestic American Bison standing on top of a small mound of dirt. There are other highly sought-after Silver Rounds struck from private mints throughout the world. They come in a wide variety of designs based on the mint that generated the Round. Silver Rounds come in various sizes: 1 oz. and 1/2 oz.
